Interview with Dr. Martin Klebes
Quickly back to everyday life with ELVeS® Radial® for varicose veins with Dr. Martin Klebes
Dr. Klebes, in your practice in Sinsheim, you specialize in the early diagnosis and modern treatment of venous diseases. What conditions do patients come to you with?
We established the practice in Sinsheim at the beginning of 2025. We specialize in the treatment of varicose veins and spider veins. As a dermatologist, another focus is the detection and treatment of skin cancer.
How do varicose veins and spider veins develop?
The main cause of varicose veins is a weakness of the venous valves. Normally, these valves in the veins ensure that blood is transported towards the heart. If they are damaged or too weak, blood can flow back and pool in the veins. This causes the veins to expand, their walls lose elasticity – varicose veins develop.
Spider veins are the smaller, harmless variant of varicose veins. They also arise from an expansion of the small blood vessels, lie directly under the skin, and are usually visible as reddish or bluish. Even if they generally do not cause discomfort, they can be an indication of an emerging venous weakness.
When should varicose veins be treated?
Varicose veins do not regress on their own. They usually worsen with increasing age. New varicose veins can also develop. It is advisable to remove the varices if they cause discomfort that cannot be sufficiently alleviated by other treatments. An intervention is also appropriate if complications arise or if those affected suffer greatly from the appearance of their legs.
What advantages do you see in using ELVeS® Radial® laser therapy?
We see the advantage in outpatient treatment under local anesthesia, which means that patients can usually quickly go home and resume their normal daily activities. The treatment is almost painless, and there are no scars and significantly fewer postoperative bruises.
Do I have to expect long downtimes after laser therapy?
Patients can resume their normal activities immediately after treatment with ELVeS® Radial®.
