In the Interview Dr. Frauke Welke-Reichwein
Dr. Frauke Welke-Reichwein prefers ELVeS® Radial® especially for recurrent procedures
Dr. Welke-Reichwein, you run a private practice for dermatology and phlebology in Bottrop. How extensive is your range of diagnostics and therapy?
I offer the complete spectrum of dermatology and phlebology. My focus is on operative dermatology and phlebological diagnostics using color-coded duplex sonography as well as complete venous function diagnostics. Therapeutically, I offer all treatment methods from compression therapy to sclerotherapy including foam sclerotherapy, to classical stripping surgery and endovenous laser therapy of varicose veins. I work with an anesthetist and can therefore offer all surgical procedures under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis or under inpatient conditions in the hospital.
Which venous system diseases do you treat?
I treat spider veins, varicose veins, thrombosis, and also vein inflammation, tendency to swell, and lipedema.
Which treatments can generally be performed on an outpatient basis in your practice?
The sclerotherapy of spider veins and foam sclerotherapy of varicose veins are performed in my practice in Bottrop. The surgical procedures take place in an outpatient operating room in Mülheim and at a hospital in Mülheim.
What advantage do you see in using the ELVeS® Radial® 2-Ring laser therapy?
This laser therapy is a very gentle procedure that does not require large incisions, particularly avoiding the groin incision necessary in classical varicose vein surgery. As a result, patients recover very quickly postoperatively and usually experience little pain. I particularly like to perform recurrent procedures (procedures for reoccurrence) with the laser, as it prevents the formation of new scars.
How soon can I resume my usual activities after laser treatment?
My patients can move normally on the day of the surgery and are not significantly restricted in their usual activities. They usually wear a compression stocking during the day for two weeks. They can start cycling again after just a few days and jogging or swimming depending on the findings after one to two weeks.
