Dr. Andreas Ott sees only advantages in the endoluminal laser treatment of varicose veins using ELVeS® Radial®

1. Dr. Ott, you run a joint practice with Dr. Kluge with various specialties. What is the significance of phlebology in this?

We are a dermatology practice with a surgical focus, which also includes laser surgery. Operative phlebology has been a significant component of our spectrum since the practice opened in 2007.

2. What methods do you use for vascular examination?

Before therapy, diagnostics are of course performed, which we conduct using ultrasound, LRR, and VVP.

3. You also offer outpatient phlebological care. What does that entail?

All diagnostics and therapy take place in our practice. For varicose vein surgeries and vein laser treatments, we have an operating suite available once a week in Rehau. 

4. In your experience, what advantages does the minimally invasive laser therapy ELVeS® Radial® offer?

For over 15 years, we have been treating varicose veins using endoluminal laser treatment. For over 10 years with the ELVeS® Radial® laser fiber. We see only advantages with this procedure, such as less postoperative pain, immediate mobilization, fewer hematomas (bruises), very short downtime (incapacity for work), much fewer scars, and a shorter operation duration. Also, the recurrence rates in relation to the conventional stripping operation with groin or popliteal incision in our patient collective are not higher. 

5. What treatment costs are covered by health insurance companies?

Nowadays, there are many statutory health insurance companies that cover the treatment costs, such as many BKKs, LKKs, IKKs, and, which is very important for us, AOK Bayern.
